MARIA ZARATE - WAVE RECIPIENT!
Congratulations to Maria Zarate, an East Valley High School student enrolled in YV-TECH Bilingual Para Professional Program who was selected as a 2008 WAVE Award recipient. WAVE selections receive a two year paid scholarship to an accredited public or private college or university, or licensed vocational school.
EVHS BAND TOPS AT REGIONAL COMPETITION
The EVHS Band performed at the Yakima Valley Music Educator's Association High School Band Festival on Thursday April 10. The performance was outstanding and the group received a rating of "1", the highest rating possible. Ratings are given out on a scale of "1" to "4". East Valley was one of only four bands from our region to receive the "1" rating. Way to go band members!
SUPPORTING STUDENT RECOGNITION
Both Target Stores and Washington Mutual Savings Bank have programs in which a percentage of sales areas are donated to a school designated by the customer. East Valley High School uses these donations to increase student recognition through our Renaissance program.
This is a great way to support your local high school. If you have not already done so, you can designate EVHS as your school of choice by stopping by customer service at Target or by going to the Washington Mutual website wamoolaforschools.com and click on the "Raise Your School's Spirit" icon. The WaMoola program has no cost to cardholders, it provides points toward the school of choice each time the debit card is used. Thank you for supporting our school in this way.
NHS MAKING A COMMUNITY IMPACT
The EVHS Chapter of the National Honor Society has been active in the community this school year. Among their service projects, there has been a food drive that collected 4300 lbs of food for Northwest Harvest. They also worked at the Luminary and the potato feed for Marissa McCafferty. This spring, they will be planting at the Terrace Heights Park. Thanks goes out to these community minded students under the leadership of club officers Chelsea Ganuelas, Julia Valicoff, Brian Feeney, Jackie Simmons, Arianna Mohsenian, Kaitlin DeWitt and advisor, Mrs. Young.
