Field Trip Meal Regulations for Adults, Staff & Supervisors:
Meals made by the Food Service Department in conjunction with the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs (USDA/OSPI) meet the meal pattern requirements for reimbursable meals and are for students only.
All students will have the option of receiving sack lunches for field trips. Children on a field trip must be offered lunches that meet the daily meal component requirements. K-8 daily meal component requirements include 1 cup milk, 2-ounce meat equivalent, 2-ounce grain equivalent, ½ cup fruit, and ¾ cup vegetables.
Meals served on field trips are subject to stringent food safety measures to avoid contamination and spoilage. Offer vs. Serve is not required as part of the field trip meal service.
Meals are given to students using a check off tally system, which may be checked off from a class roster.
Tally/check-off roster or list must be turned in to the school kitchen upon return for meals to be reimbursed and added into Skyward and to the meal count for the day. Counts of bag lunches sent or returned or field trip attendance counts may not be used as a meal count system.
If an adult staff or parent wishes to purchase an adult meal, they will have to inform the teacher and be added to the roster and pre-pay for their sack lunch ahead of time. Their sack lunch will be included with the sack lunches picked up on that day. Meals for any adult (driver, paraprofessional, teacher, parent, etc.) must be purchased per State regulations at current adult meal price. Only food service employees are exempt from this regulation.
If the school building administrator wishes to purchase meals for parents or any adult supervising the field trip, they may do so ahead of time so that the cooks may have them prepared in time for the field trip.
