COVID-19 In-School Testing

The East Valley School District will be offering COVID-19 rapid antigen and PCR testing to students or staff who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms while at school or are considered a "close contact" to a staff or student who has tested positive. Parental/guardian permission is required prior to administering a COVID-19 test to students.

If symptoms appear while at home, DO NOT send your student to school to be tested. They will need to take a PCR test from a community testing site or pharmacy. For a list of testing sites please visit: Yakima County COVID-19 Testing Sites.

Start date of testing:

Who are the tests for?

  • Staff and students who are at school and exhibiting symptoms.

What if the “close contact” student or staff member tests negative? Will they be allowed to return to class?

  • Students or staff who are fully vaccinated will not be required to quarantine. They will be provided the opportunity to take a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after exposure.
  • Students or staff who are NOT fully vaccinated will be sent home under quarantine protocol. On the 5th day of quarantine, they can take a PCR test. If negative they may return to school on the 8th day.

Can other community members be tested at East Valley schools?

No, at this time, testing is only available to EVSD students and staff who exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 (while at school) or who are considered a "close contact" of a staff or student from EVSD. If your symptoms appear while at home, do not come to school to be tested.  For a list of community testing sites please visit: Yakima County Community COVID-19 Testing Sites.

What is the cost for testing?

Testing is free to staff and students.

What test(s) results are accepted for a return to school?

EVSD recently updated our guidance based on updated recommendations that only PCR negative test results will be accepted for a return to school. Rapid antigen or at home test results will not be accepted.

Can I take my child to a community COVID-19 testing site or pharmacy for their test?

Yes, the East Valley School District will accept PCR test results from a community testing site or pharmacy. Rapid or home tests are not accepted for a return to school for symptomatic or non-vaccinated close contacts.
